About Derwas of Welshpool
Today's Derwas business, run by Kaye Derwas, dates from the 1950s when her grandfather established the ironmongers 'Denbigh & Co' in Welshpool High Street. In 1961 Kaye's grandfather set up a new business for her father and his brother, called 'Derwas Bros Agricultural Ironmongers and Seed Merchants'. This was based at 4 Berriew Street, Welshpool.
The business traded in tractors and farm machinery as well as ironmongery and seeds to farms in the area.
Kaye joined the business in 1992 and worked alongside her father and her brother Adrian - (aka Percy Derwas) a qualified agricultural engineer and who had been with the company since 1986.
We are now undergoing a major showroom refit and have stopped selling hardware, ironmongery, tools and gardening. Whilst a brave move away from our traditional heritage it is time for a change.
We still have many valued customers who remember our name from the old days and who know that we still stock all the hard-to-find spares for their open fires and range cookers. We've been a Rayburn main dealer since 1961 and we still have a full range of spares for ranges of that vintage. There aren't many places left who can say that!
After joining forces with two local companies we now have kitchens and flooring on display from local businesses Welshpool Kitchen Company http://www.welshpoolkitchencompany.co.uk and Grahams Flooring http://www.graham-flooring.co.uk/about so really are a one stop shop for all your home needs.
